AdBlue® is a key component for all diesel vehicles with SCR systems because it helps in the fight to reduce harmful emissions and protects the environment. However, when counterfeit or low-quality products appear on the market, the consequences go far beyond a single vehicle. They affect people, business and nature.
Harm to people
Firstly, the use of poor-quality AdBlue® can lead to higher levels of air pollution. Increased nitrogen oxide emissions are directly linked to respiratory diseases, allergies and long-term health problems. This affects not only drivers and vehicle owners, but the entire society – especially residents of large cities.
Harm to the market
Counterfeits deal a serious blow to honest manufacturers and distributors. Companies that invest in quality, certification and compliance with international standards lose competitiveness when dishonest traders offer cheap but harmful products. As a result, consumers are often confused and disappointed, and trust in the entire sector decreases. This creates uncertainty and hinders the development of the market.
Harm to nature
AdBlue® is designed to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions, which are among the main air pollutants. When the product is fake or with incorrect concentration, the SCR system does not function properly and the environmental effect is zero. This means more pollution, more acid rain and greater pressure on natural resources. On a large scale, this sabotages the efforts of the EU and Bulgaria to reduce the carbon footprint of transport.
What can we do?
Fake AdBlue® is a problem that can only be solved through joint action. Manufacturers must ensure transparency and traceability of their products, state institutions must strengthen control, and consumers must be careful and responsible. In case of suspicion of poor-quality product, reporting to the competent authorities (such as us at BAMIA) is the first step towards limiting the problem.
Fake AdBlue® is not just a “cheap substitute” – it is a risk for health, business and nature. Only through trust in certified suppliers and an active civic position can we protect the market and guarantee a cleaner future.
